Our Shining Stars
Sadye
Sadye is 11 years old and lives with myself and her dad, as well her brother who is 9 years old. She struggles with some fine motor skills, stamina, core strength, and the ability to calm her body at appropriate times. I know that Occupational Therapy can help with all these things. She had been in OT in the past but had made enough progress to take a break, and in the meantime, I've had her brother start up. When I saw her having the need again, I held off because I can't afford both at the same time.
I think Occupational Therapy is important because it would teach her (and us) how to strengthen parts of herself that she need's in order to be successful in various areas of her life. It will help with social, emotional and academics. In the past, OT helped with self-regulation, core strengthening and confidence. The results we saw were great, and specifically influenced her academics and confidence.
Getting support is very expensive, and really adds up when more than one child needs multiple services. With Sadye's brother in OT as well, it just isn't doable to pay for both. Receiving financial support would be the only way we could get them both help at the same time.
