Our Shining Stars

Preston

Preston has always had a notable memory for details from a young age. He enjoys spending time with our pets and hopes to get into horseback riding this fall (he's on a waitlist for equine therapy). We all love Star Wars, and Preston is really into Ghostbusters and Legos. In his free time, he enjoys swimming or taking bubble baths. Preston is currently diagnosed with ADHD combined type and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. His therapist, a team member from Empact, and his new psychiatrist are concerned he may have been misdiagnosed, as he has symptoms in line with Autism w/o cognitive impairment. His greatest challenges are managing frustrations and overstimulation associated most often with transitions and loud noises. He really wants to have more friends and have play dates, but he tends to scare friends away with his demanding personality to talk only about what he knows or what he wants to play. He has been in swimming, soccer, jiu jitsu, and t-ball, but he has not been able to complete a season of an organized sport, as he will refuse to attend further practices or lessons. His mom has been advocating for Preston to receive in depth evaluation since age 3. The testing that has been done thus far does not provide a comprehensive evaluation. With daily intervention needed at school lately, it's been difficult for her to maintain a solid work schedule as a Realtor. Preston’s mom has a lot of understanding friends, family, and even some former preschool teachers of Preston, but it's hard for her to provide the stability that her boys (especially Preston) needs and be able to help others with their housing needs on demand.
