Our Shining Stars
Angel
Angel is a vibrant member of a family of five, enjoying outdoor activities and ATV rides with siblings Aaliyah and Avan. However, Angel faces unique challenges as he was diagnosed with ADHD in May 2023. ADHD affects various aspects of his life, making it challenging for him to sit still for tasks like work, eating, or using the restroom. He struggles with understanding the concept of danger, exhibits overactive behavior, and engages in sensory-stimulating activities like smelling his fingers throughout the day.
The family has encountered difficulties in obtaining diagnostic testing due to denials from various sources, even with AHCCCS coverage. Despite persistent efforts, they have faced challenges in proving the necessity of evaluations for Angel's well-being.
This grant is seen as a crucial opportunity to gain insights into Angel's struggles, whether related to autism or other factors. Denied evaluations have heightened concerns for Angel's safety and well-being, as he demonstrates a tendency to run away and engages in risky behaviors. The family, including Angel's school and therapist, is dedicated to providing him with the necessary support and seeks assistance to address his unique needs.
Angel's mother expresses deep concern for his safety, highlighting his constant state of hyperactivity and resistance to rest. Despite these challenges, Angel is described as a smart and fearless boy, except for a fear of the dark. The family is committed to advocating for Angel and providing him with the resources he needs to thrive.
